Election address (with more information)
I have worked in IT for 25 years - for British Gas, AG Solutions, DMR, Fujitsu Consulting, and now Fujitsu Services.
I have represented my colleagues for over 20 years, from local to European level. I believe passionately in good communication with, and accountability to, the people who have elected me.
I am an Unite union member; I seek consensus not confrontation, but will take a stand if the issue requires it. From redundancy criteria to parking spaces, I have always argued for compassion and common sense.
Some of my current concerns are fair pay and transparency and TUPE protection.
More Information
I have worked in IT for 25 years, starting as a trainee Computer Operator working rotating shifts for British Gas, moving through Operations to Technical Support of the VME platform.
In 1995 I transferred to the British Gas/ Amdahl joint venture, AG Solutions. AGS was responsible for the implementation and support of the Centrica billing system, with the intention of extending the business to other utility companies.
Later AGS was assimilated to DMR, Fujitsu Consulting, and now Fujitsu Services, and I have transferred to each company under TUPE terms. I now manage the UK MS Service Desk, running a 24x7 Service Management facility in SOL10.
I joined UNISON shortly after joining British Gas, and soon became a union representative. Later I was elected to a number of bodies, from local branch to European works council. Recently I have transferred to UNITE, as this union is more relevant and effective for employees of Fujitsu.
I am currently a member of the Reward Framework discussion group, the chair of the Fujitsu Consulting Consultation Forum (still meeting for an interim period), the SOL10 local forum, and the group involved in re-writing the UKCF constitution.
My role as representative and advocate for my colleagues has been absolutely central to my working life, and I have been committed to the responsibility and accountability that these roles have brought. I am a committed member of an evangelical Anglican church, where I am a church warden and lay leader. My faith and personal commitment to justice and the value of each individual have had a profound impact on my priorities at work.
