Since David Courtley’s announcement, many employees have been raising concerns. UNITE is organising a drop-in session where employees (whether members or not) can discuss the situation with the UNITE Reps:
Drop-in on your lunch break any time between 12:00 and 14:00
Tuesday 3rd June
MAN35, conference room 35GCR2
Please pass this invitation on to colleagues you think may be interested but who aren’t yet UNITE members.
It’s hard to untangle the genuine issues from attempts to lower employee expectations and attempts to influence the government position in negotiations.
The most important concern is job security – the impact on jobs is not yet clear.
Many employees are very concerned about loss of earnings. The statement that “this decision to withdraw will have a very serious impact on bonus payments” does not say that bonuses will not be paid, but is extremely worrying.
Very few employees had a pay rise of more than 5%, so if the company didn’t pay the bonuses, almost all of us would be earning less money this year than last, despite working hard all year and delivering otherwise good results.
At a time when the cost of living is rising rapidly, people need their income to at least keep pace, not go backwards.
Please take the time to drop in, let your reps know how you feel, and discuss what approach the union should take in this difficult situation.
